After the success of various Vietnam national IPv6 events since 2012, and in order to expand the promotion of IPv6 deployment, the Vietnam National IPv6 Task Force continues to organize the IPv6 events of 2016, including a training course on IPv6 named “IPv6 deployment for LTE network” from April 26th to April 29th 2016 and the conference "National IPv6 Action – Providing IPv6 services together" in Hanoi on Vietnam IPv6 Day, May 6th 2016. The conference was well-attended by the members of the National IPv6TF, representatives of MIC and other governmental authorities, major ICT enterprises such as ISPs, CSPs, online portals,.. and the press media.
2016 marks the completion of the second stage of the National IPv6 Plan with varied achievements from all partners: all ISPs connected to the national IPv6 networks set up by VNNIC. VIETTEL already launched the pilot IPv6 project in March 2016 in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, also being ready to provide IPv6 services to 11,000 FTTH customers via GPON technology, 10 international connectivity with total IPv4/IPv6 traffic of 432Gbps. VNPT also prepared for IPv6 implementation with 7 IPv4-IPv6 dual stack connectivity of 220Gbps traffic. FPT Telecom set up native IPv6 connectivity with total IPv6 traffic of 1,5Gbps. However, the IPv6 penetration rate in our country stays very low at about 0,03%, due to lack of actual usage by end users.
In the conclusion of the conference, Mr. Tran Minh Tan – Director General of VNNIC – emphasized the importance of those efforts from ICT enterprises and their commitments towards the National IPv6 Action Plan with detailed internal plans to provide IPv6 services productions to users by the end of 2017. In particular, all members of the Task Force expected to increase the penetration rate to 2% by National IPv6 Day 2017. VNNIC and the National IPv6TF would also commit to continue their roles of coordination, support, consultancy and promotion of IPv6 policies and activities.
In addition, the training course on IPv6 named “IPv6 deployment for LTE network” from April 25th to April 28th 2016 that was run by the Malaysian experts from National Advanced IPv6 (NAv6) Centre with the participation of technicians and engineers from ISPs and mobile operators, with the purpose of improve the professional knowledge about IPv6 application for LTE networks as well as LTE service that is expected to be a blooming service in 2017 in Viet Nam.
