Origins of Vietnamese Mid-Autumn Festival

While the Mid-autumn Festival originated in China and is celebrated in many Asian countries, the Vietnamese version has its own traditions and legends. In Vietnam, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a festival mainly for the Children, so it’s also called Children Festival. During the festival parents often buy various types of lanterns, snacks, and funny masks for their children.

Lantern parade

Children are often bought colorful lanterns to carry when walking together in the moonlight. This activity will light up the street with various types of lanterns. It seems to be the most favorite activity for children, they can have time to play with each other. 

Lion dance

The lion dance is usually held before Mid-Autumn Festival to raise funds for the festival at each local, but the busiest is two nights 15 and 16. Both non-professional and professional children groups perform dances on the streets or go to houses. If accepted by the host, “the lion” will come in and start dancing as a wish of lucky money as donation.

It’s the tray fulfilled by fruits and decorated attractively. The typical fruits and foods of this occasion are bananas and nuggets, papaya, red persimmon, and green pickled persimmon,... and grapefruit is an indispensable fruit. When the moon reaches the top of the head is the moment for everyone to enjoy the taste of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
